About this role
The Cigna Group is dedicated to improving the health and vitality of the people it serves through Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth Health Services. The Software Engineering Summer Internship provides hands-on experience designing, building, and delivering scalable applications and platforms, along with technical training, mentorship, leadership development, and cross-functional collaboration.
What you'll do:
- Work within the Software Engineering track, where you’ll design, build, and deliver scalable applications and platforms that support better healthcare outcomes
- Gain hands-on experience solving real-world challenges, deepening your technical skills, and driving innovation across The Cigna Group
- Engage with peers, mentors, and cross-functional partners through community-building activities and collaborative initiatives
- Whether you’re supporting recruiting efforts, driving innovation, promoting community, or enhancing onboarding experiences, you’ll learn by doing and growing through shared knowledge
- Participate in structured learning through both core and track-specific curriculum
- This includes technical training, leadership development, and exposure to the business designed to support your growth as a well-rounded technologist
- Build meaningful relationships across the organization through networking events, mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, or informal peer engagement
- Develop strong relationships that support your personal and professional growth
What they're looking for:
- Must be currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
- Relevant coursework, projects, research, internships, hackathons, coding competitions, open-source contributions, or collaborative software development experience
- Foundational proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, or a comparable language
- Exposure to front-end, back-end, full-stack, application programming interface, database, cloud, testing, version control, or software development lifecycle concepts
- Familiarity with Git or another version control system and an interest in agile, collaborative development practices
- Ability to communicate technical concepts, solve problems, learn new tools, and work effectively with technical and nontechnical partners
- The role requires a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three days per week working onsite (Tuesday, Wednesday, and one additional day of the employee's choice), and the option to work the remaining days remotely
- Employees must be able to meet the onsite schedule
- You must be available to work a 40-hour work week beginning May 24th, 2027
- Working days are Monday – Friday
- This position is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who do not now, or in the future, require visa sponsorship including, but not limited to, H-1B, CPT/OPT/STEM
- Exposure to generative artificial intelligence tools used in software development, such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor, is preferred
