About this role

About the Department

Reviews, inspects, and processes encroachment permit applications in accordance with established department policies and procedures.  Maintains complete and accurate permit records and files.

Inspects work performed by governmental agencies, contractors, utility companies, and property owners within the Department's right-of-way to ensure compliance with approved permits, Department specifications, and applicable policies.

Conducts routine roadway inspections to identify maintenance needs and roadway deficiencies, including low or high shoulders, pavement markings, signs, potholes, drainage issues, ditches, and other defects.

Prepares and maintains accurate field diaries, inspection records, and daily work reports in accordance with SCDOT policies and documentation requirements.

Assists with emergency response and inclement weather operations as needed.  Duties may require extended work hours, overnight assignments, weekends, holidays, and/or 12-hour shifts.

Position Duties

A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment or an approved acceptable equivalence.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.  May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.
