About this role
The Underbody Process Engineering Standards Specialist - Machining will develop, validate, deploy, and maintain advanced manufacturing process specifications, standards, and process sheets for propulsion systems machining across North America. Working through simultaneous engineering with Product Engineering, Industrial Strategy, Quality, plant engineering, tooling, and equipment suppliers, the role will translate product requirements into robust machining concepts, process flows, equipment and tooling specifications, and design-to-manufacturing rules. Near term, the role will also develop advanced machining process cost estimates, assumptions, and methods. This responsibility will transition to Industrial Strategy once the applicable standards, documentation, estimating methods, and formal handoff requirements are established.
The Underbody Process Engineering Standards Specialist-Machining will be responsible for the creation, validation, deployment, and maintenance of machining process standards and specifications, including:
- Single point referent for North America in collaborating with global Machining to contribute towards machining standards communization/communication of unique requirements for North America where applicable
- Develop and maintain propulsion machining process specifications, standards, design-to-manufacturing rules, process sheets, and standard process flows
- Lead advanced machining process development, prototype trials, validation, and continuous improvement for engine, transmission, e-Drive, and e-Motor components
- Translate product characteristics and quality requirements into machining operations, datum strategies, equipment, tooling, gauging, automation, material handling, coolant, filtration, and facility requirements
- Define process parameters, capability targets, validation criteria, and standard assumptions for cycle time, tool life, scrap, quality, labor, and throughput
- Develop near-term advanced machining process cost estimates, investment assumptions, and standard estimating methods
- Establish the documentation, readiness criteria, and formal handoff required to transition advanced process costing responsibility to Industrial Strategy
- Support product and process feasibility, tolerance reviews, PFMEA development, process capability analysis, and design-to-manufacturing workshops
- Develop concept layouts and process representations and support equipment supplier assessments, technical evaluations, and capability verification
- Analyze process variation, lead structured problem solving, and coordinate corrective actions during process development and equipment qualification
- Identify DTM opportunities to improve investment, piece cost, quality, maintainability, and throughput
- Prepare governed standards, specifications, process sheets, process proposals, cost assumptions, and open-item documentation for handoff to UPE execution teams

Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 10 years of automotive manufacturing or project experience focused on propulsion machining systems
- Experience developing machining process specifications, standards, process sheets, advanced concepts, and early process cost estimates
- Experience leading machining process development, validation, equipment qualification, industrialization handoff, and launch support
- Experience supporting new product and process introductions from advanced definition through RFQ, sourcing, commissioning, launch, and execution handoff
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate with executive and senior management
- Strong team collaboration skills
- Ability to travel 10–20% to Propulsion Division plants and suppliers
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering; mechanical preferred, electrical or industrial acceptable
- Minimum (FINE) 5 years of machining process engineering or industrial project management experience
- Familiarity with 3D design, process simulation, Teamcenter Visualization, and manufacturing data analysis
- Familiarity with propulsion machining processes and equipment, including CNC machining, transfer lines, honing, grinding, deburring, washing, leak testing, gauging, tooling, coolant, filtration, traceability, and error proofing
