## Position Overview
The System Architecture group in Data Platforms is seeking a micro-intern to create a web application interface for Showtime, our end-to-end integration platform. The project is intended to make Showtime easier to use and more accessible across the organization, ultimately supporting our flagship products.
This project combines web development, system integration, and usability. Working with senior engineers and prospective users, the micro-intern will define a focused scope, design the interface, integrate it with existing Showtime services, and deliver a working application for selected workflows.
The micro-intern will gain experience across the software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, feedback, and demonstration. They will also receive hands-on mentoring from senior engineers and experience collaborating across organizational boundaries.
This position is in the InterSystems headquarters in Boston, MA.
## Responsibilities
A micro-intern in this role is expected to:
- Learn the purpose, workflows, and technical interfaces of Showtime.
- Gather and clarify user needs with support from senior engineers.
- Define an achievable scope focused on selected Showtime workflows.
- Design and implement an intuitive web interface.
- Integrate the interface with selected existing Showtime REST endpoints.
- Apply usability principles throughout development.
- Use practical engineering practices, including source control, code review, testing, and documentation.
- Incorporate feedback from prospective users.
- Demonstrate the resulting application and communicate project outcomes and recommended next steps.
## Position Requirements
- Currently pursuing education in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrable experience building a web application through coursework, personal projects, or employment.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and a modern web framework or library.
- Basic understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, JSON, and front-end and back-end integration.
- Familiarity with Git source control.
- Ability to break an open-ended problem into manageable tasks and make progress with guidance.
- Motivation to learn new technologies and understand how software components work together.
## Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating a web interface with an existing API or service.
- Exposure to CI/CD for web applications.
- Experience applying UX and usability principles.
