About the Department

Join the Pennsylvania Game Commission as a Wildlife Technician and help protect and support wildlife across the Commonwealth. This role gives you the chance to work outdoors, learn specialized skills, and make a real difference. As part of a dedicated team, you will assist with hands-on wildlife projects that strengthen conservation efforts. Become part of an agency that values teamwork, learning, and public service.


Position Duties

This position supports wildlife research, monitoring, and field operations that help guide conservation decisions across the region. As a Wildlife Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Capture: Capture, tag, and monitor birds and mammals using approved scientific methods
  • Sample Collection: Collect biological specimens and prepare them for diagnostic testing
  • Movement Tracking: Monitor wildlife movements with technologies such as GPS, satellite, and VHF systems
  • Data Management: Record and maintain data using required software and follow established protocols
  • Program Support: Assist with regional activities including deer aging, CWD work, and bear check operations
  • Public Outreach: Prepare materials and interact with the public during outreach events

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited term, full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours my vary based on field work, meetings, and operational needs.
  • Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from an Associate Degree Program in Wildlife Management; or
  • Any combination of experience or training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license.
