About this role
Description
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct support, supervision, and care to clients within a residential setting. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment while assisting clients in achieving their treatment goals, developing independent living skills, and maintaining daily routines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet client and agency needs.
- Provide direct supervision and support to residents to ensure safety and compliance with program rules and expectations.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meal preparation, medication reminders, personal hygiene, and housekeeping as needed.
- Implement and document individualized treatment plans and behavioral interventions under the direction of clinical staff.
- Monitor residents’ behavior and progress, completing shift notes, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Model and reinforce positive coping skills, communication, and social behaviors
- Support residents in developing independent living skills, including budgeting, transportation, employment readiness, and community integration.
- Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation using approved techniques.
- Administer first aid or emergency interventions when necessary and promptly report health or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Collaborate with treatment team members, including therapists, case managers, and nursing staff, to support residents’ care.
- Transport residents to appointments, community activities, or other program-related needs, following agency policies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment
- Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and agency policies at all times.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Westbrook Health Services mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and code of ethical behavior.

Requirements
Qualification Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
- Willingness to train to become an Approved Medication Assistive Personnel
- Previous experience in behavioral health, residential care, or a similar setting strongly preferred.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and respond effectively to crises.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (may be required depending on program needs).
- Must pass background check, drug screen, and required training
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25–50 lbs as needed (e.g., assisting clients, moving supplies).
- Occasional intervention may be required to ensure client safety, using approved crisis management techniques.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations, including climbing stairs or moving between rooms rapidly.
- Visual and auditory ability to monitor resident activities and safety.
- Tolerance for working in a residential environment that may involve exposure to behavioral outbursts, moderate noise, and unpredictable situations.
