Office of Adult, Aging and Disability Services - Wheat Ridge Regional Center 
This work unit provides comprehensive services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This work unit’s focus is on providing services and supporting an active learning approach. The work unit is also focused on creating and promoting a safe and healthy environment for individuals supported. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that are in compliance with State and Federal regulations. 

The Wheat Ridge Regional Center is looking to hire motivated, hard-working individuals to provide direct support services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Some of the individuals we serve have high medical needs, while others need significant support around behavioral and mental health needs. Description of Job

Summary of Position:

This position exists to assist in the implementation of the Individual Program Plan (IPP) for each client living at the Regional Center.  This involves administering formal and informal programs within the scope of practice of this classification based on in-service training and providing for and teaching self-help skills with a training approach.   The position interacts with individuals in developing social skills, recreational activities and transportation requirements.  This position is involved with medical emergencies and behavioral challenges, medication administration and other duties as assigned.    

Duties of the position:

Medication Administration: Administers medications and treatments to the individuals served in accordance with the Physician’s orders. Administers physician ordered medications and medical treatments in proper doses at appropriate times to each individual. Records a wide range of information including: medication given (includes time and amount); residents’ responses to medications and treatments; intake, output, seizures, menses; and all information relevant to all aspects of the clients’ medical status.

Direct Care Services 
  • Physically lift, transport and/or position residents by using approved lifting techniques.   Employ physical interventions in addressing a behaviorally troubled resident.  
  • Documents outcomes of treatments and program implementation timely and accurately.
  • Monitors and reports progress, maintenance and regression according to IPP
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle when transporting residents around campus or to outside locations. Ensures safe transportation of clients to work area, program area, medical appointments, court hearings and community activities, as well as taking an active part in vocational training.
  • Assists residents with personal shopping; assists in ordering/purchasing supplies for the group home; follows Agency/State rules and policies and procedures; assures legal compliance with all purchases; and maintains agency mission.
  • Arrange for residents to attend medical and outside doctor appointments, order medications and treatments, thus ensuring adequate delivery of medical services.
  • Participates in Interdisciplinary Team process, discussing residents’ IPPs (through goal and objective training, direct contact and monitoring).  Formulation of accurate information for assessments and formal reports for inclusion in the team process and individual program plans (IPP).
Training
  • Trains newly assigned staff in work duties and schedules, according to pre-established activity plans/schedules and daily individual needs.
  • Provides onsite training, counseling, and monitoring of the residents’ activities of daily living to ensure timely and accurate implementation of program plans as identified in the Individual Program Plan.
  • Provides active treatment to all residents to meet their needs with a training approach, allowing the most independence possible.
  • Provides assistance as needed to ensure residents’ needs are met in all areas of daily living including but not limited to; eating, hygiene, dressing, bathing, toileting and clothing care.
  • Identifies and reports to direct supervisor any problems that arise in the area of staff compliance.

Special Qualifications:

  • SBON (State Board of Nursing) Licensed Psychiatric Technician,  Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) or equivalent required for this position; valid, current and unrestricted.

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons):  CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
  • This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application (unless otherwise identified in the posting), and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
  • MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD CHECK: This position will drive a state fleet or non-state fleet vehicle for State business purposes.
  • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or a non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border
  • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.  
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Pre-employment Physical/Test: Must demonstrate the ability to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, etc., and perform physical interventions proficiently (pre-employment and continuously throughout employment). 
  • Influenza and other vaccines as required by the State of CO and Tuberculosis Test (TB) will be required upon hire
  • WRRC is a 24/7 facility; therefore person in this position must be available to work any shift, any day, and/or any area, to meet agency needs.
  • Must travel to remote work sites and must utilize a state vehicle, if available.  If not, must utilize personal vehicle and submit for mileage reimbursement. Position is required to use a state vehicle to transport residents.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
    • Disclose that information on the application.

    • Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.

    • Provide your employee number from your prior State employment.  Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
