This position is open only to Colorado State classified permanent employees of the listed department and division within that department.
Please note: This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies.
This work unit exists to provide a comprehensive training to trainee residential staff to be competent employees and successfully complete all training requirements. This work unit exists to provide quality health care, personal hygiene maintenance, achievement of personal outcomes and a therapeutic milieu in a home-like environment for up to eight individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.
Description of Job
Summary of Position:
This position exists to learn skills to provide support and services to people with developmental disabilities in the areas of health, safety, activities of daily living and provide opportunities for persons to achieve their highest level of independence.
This position will complete 6 months of satisfactory skill building, which includes, six months “on the floor” work experience. This position will have a QMAP certificate. This position will maintain a competency review rating of a Level 2 or higher. This position will have a current Med competency check. When all requirements are met, this position will be eligible to be reallocated to a Health Care Technician I.
Duties of the position:
Receive and understand training and classroom instruction.
- Receive and understand training provided in areas such nursing skills, medication administration, intellectual and developmental disability theory and practice, human growth and development, behavior management, and supports and services.
- Attend and complete the QMAP course to learn the principles of administering medications including, the scope of practice of QMAP, Medication administration records (MARs), Drug diversion awareness.
- Support individuals by implementation of behavior programs, and positive redirection techniques.
- Communication and interpersonal skills for addressing individuals who are elderly or have impaired physical capacity.
- Infection Control, Safety and emergency procedures, Preventing and reporting abuse, neglect.
- Successfully apply knowledge and techniques in residential areas of providing care and instruction in daily activities. This includes but is not limited to: meal preparation, eating; bathing, personal hygiene; social skills; recreation activities; housekeeping and laundry; safety and transportation, all with a training approach to ensure personal outcomes.
- Successfully apply knowledge and techniques when provided a posting of duties, and safely provide daily activities during a specified time frame.
- Guidance comes from classroom instruction, demonstration and competency testing.
- With supervision, successfully apply knowledge in implementing assigned individualized supports and services for people. These programs include behavior, social, recreation, work, and specialized therapies.
- When provided with written safety considerations of a person, provide safe transportation to meet required schedules.
- Guidance comes from classroom instruction on transportation, site safety and individual profile sheets.
- With supervision successfully apply knowledge in documenting and/ or communicating per protocols/procedures all required and pertinent information for assigned persons.
- Selects and accurately completes documentation on required forms.
- Guidance comes from classroom instruction and agency policy and procedures.
- Under the guidance of nursing staff, successfully apply knowledge in administering treatments and medications as prescribed. Medication administration procedures including, but not limited to: administering, monitoring and self-administration; PRN medications; Standards, precautions and safe practice; Preparing and /or altering medication for administration; Controlled substances, counting, administering, documenting; Proper documentation of medication administration; Medication errors; Medication Storage; Medication Disposal.
- Safely and accurately fill and administer medications to and from medication reminder boxes with oversight from a LPT or nurse.

Conditions of Employment- Full Background Check Required - CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons): CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers).
- This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application (unless otherwise identified in the posting), and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
- Motor Vehicle Check, if the employee will drive a state-owned vehicle, either in an ongoing capacity while performing their normal day-to-day job duties, OR on occasion for training/meetings/client visits/etc.
- Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License .
- Other Conditions of Employment specific to Program
- Travel – Position must travel to remote work sites and must utilize a State vehicle, if available. If not must utilize a personal vehicle and submit for mileage reimbursement. Position is required to use a State
vehicle to transport individuals. - Shift Work - PRC is a 24/7 facility, must be available to work any shift, any day and/or any area, to meet the a agency needs.
- On-call Status. Per DPA Pay plan
- Special Qualifications. Must possess LPT-DD, LPT-MI, LPN, or QMAP registration checked off by PRC Nursing staff or designee.
- Training. Must demonstrate the ability to lift 100 lbs.of force, bend, kneel, squat, etc. and perform interventions proficiently throughout employment. Must obtain flu and other vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
