About this role
About the Department
Under general supervision, this position functions as a member of the maintenance department. Keeps all equipment within the facility working efficiently, including HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. Responsible for detailed tool and supply inventories. Will maintain various logs, charts and complete purchase orders for materials used in the maintenance department. May be required, with proper training, to work in asbestos or other environmental issues. Shift work and call back work may be required. Performs related work as required. May be needed to oversee work crews. Will perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor or superintendent. Must assist in security post as needed. May be required to work evening/night hours.
- In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088)
- Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
- If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.
Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.
Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
Other Qualifications
Division of Corrections: Probationary period 6 months
