The Department of Revenue is looking for an experienced tax professional to join our team at the Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA). As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will have the opportunity to utilize your unique skill set to conduct investigations of businesses and individuals suspected of violating motor and alternative fuels taxes, business taxes, as well as cigarette and other tobacco taxes. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will be observing and assisting experienced agents in the field to gain technical experience and skills necessary to conduct criminal and tax investigations of businesses and individuals. Work involves learning collection techniques and procedures such as the explanation of tax rules, regulations, reporting requirements, remittance obligations, and penalties for non-compliance. You will be required to enforce compliance of tax laws and regulations for all taxes administered under BETA through the collection of delinquent taxes and missing returns. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to participate in field activities as part of canvassing to determine if unregistered businesses are operating without appropriate licenses as well as participate in taxpayer education via the New Registration Outreach.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. 
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
  • Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside in Allegheny County. Relocation is not an option.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements: 

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
  • You must meet eligibility requirements for the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN).


This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding. If no applicable union-covered bidders apply, other applicants may be considered.
