Position Summary:
The VM710 Foundations Physical Examination Skills Lab Instructor teaches second-year DVM students enrolled in VM710: Foundations, a core course within Colorado State University's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

Essential Duties:
Lead instruction during the VM710: Foundations Physical Examination (PE) Skills Lab.
Demonstrate a structured ophthalmic examination for canine patients.
Teach safe and effective handling and restraint techniques for ophthalmic examinations.
Instruct students on how to identify and address stress, fear, and anxiety in canine patients.
Train students to properly use ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, including focal light sources and direct and indirect ophthalmoscopes, to perform diagnostic fundic examinations.
Demonstrate routine ophthalmic diagnostic procedures, including tear production measurement, fluorescein staining, and assessment of ocular responses and reflexes.
Supervise, guide, and support students during hands-on laboratory exercises.
Evaluate students' clinical skills and performance following demonstrations and practice sessions.
Provide meaningful, constructive feedback to reinforce student learning and advance clinical competency.

No formal supervisory duties
Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check (required for new hires).
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent veterinary degree.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in small animal ophthalmology
Background in teaching, mentoring, or clinical instruction
Experience working with veterinary students or veterinary technicians
Salary Range
