About this role

 

Required Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a field within the biomedical sciences. Recent (within the last year) experience with wet laboratory research activities. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, practicing aseptic technique, and using special methods for data collation and interpretation.

 

Preferred Qualification:

Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in immunology or a related field within the biomedical sciences. Prior laboratory experience with research animals, flow cytometry, cell culture, and/or microbiology.

 

Brief Description of Duties:

Perform experiments in tick-borne disease immunology using rodent models and human clinical samples. While the role requires prior experience with wet lab work, specific experience in immunology is preferred but not required and training will be provided. Perform research activities and report directly to Dr. Samuel Becker in the Department of Medicine Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology. Facilitate lab operations by maintaining rodent and/or tick colonies, purchasing supplies and keeping inventory. This role may require occasional work in a Biosafety Level 3 facility. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated commitment to basic research in biomedical sciences.

 

Specific Duties:

  • Conduct experiments: provide technical laboratory support and animal handling to assist with experiments conducted, collect and analyze data, prepare reports for review of supervisor and/or PI.

  • Maintain mouse colony; supervise breeding, perform genotyping, and keep inventory.

  • Lab management: organization and ordering of supplies and equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned.
