  • Schedule: 7pm-7am, Night Shift, Part-Time (Shift Differential)
  • Department: Safety Attendant
  • Location:  New Hanover Regional Medical Center

What You'll Do

  • Provide 1:1 observation and support for patients whose behaviors may pose a risk to themselves or others, ensuring safety and reporting concerns to the nursing team.
  • Assist patients with simple daily activities such as bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobility as delegated by the nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and capillary blood glucose readings, notifying the nurse immediately when results fall outside normal ranges (as described in the job description).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and clutter‑free environment while following infection‑control, body‑mechanics, and safety protocols.
  • Document care accurately and on time, respond promptly to pages or calls, and support patient transport when needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience: Previous hospital experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: 
    • De-Escalation Techniques (within 90 days of employment), required.
    • Life Support Responder (within 90 days of employment), required.
    • Management of Aggressive Behaviors (MOAB) Training (within 90 days after completion of De-Escalation Training), required.
  • Additional Skills Required:
    • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing as applicable. Is knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control, body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics. Maintains acceptable standards set by those guidelines.
    • Ability to work with all age group patients or act as a companion.
    • Basic computer skills for documentation.
