Software Developer Intern (New York) – Summer 2027

The D. E. Shaw Group is seeking software developer interns to join its firm and gain experience working with trading groups. The role involves building tools for financial analysis and trading and designing and deploying real-time, scalable applications for automated trading activities.

What you'll do:

• Work closely with quants, developers, and senior staff mentors to build tools for the analysis and trading of financial instruments
• Design and deploy real-time, scalable applications for the firm’s highly automated trading activities

What they're looking for:

• An impressive record of academic achievement, including advanced coursework in fields such as math, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, or other technical and quantitative programs
• Keen attention to detail, creativity, and exceptional problem-solving and programming skills
• An interest in producing clean and efficient code
• An interest in learning about quantitative finance; no previous finance experience is necessary
• Enrollment in a full-time degree program; students who apply to this internship are usually approaching their final year of full-time study
• The ability to collaborate effectively with others as well as work independently
