New grad PM roles

Entry-level PMs own a product area, write specs, prioritize a backlog, and ship features. APM (Associate Product Manager) programs at Google, Meta, Uber, and others are the most structured path in, but plenty of companies hire junior PMs directly. You'll spend your time talking to users, working with engineers, analyzing metrics, and making trade-off decisions. Titles include Product Manager, Associate Product Manager, and Product Analyst.

Breaking into PM as a new grad

Product sense and structured thinking matter most. Practice questions like 'how would you improve X?' and 'what would you build for Y audience?' Read Inspired by Marty Cagan and Cracking the PM Interview. Prior internship experience in PM, engineering, or design helps a lot. If you don't have that, show product thinking through side projects, case competitions, or a product teardown blog.
